YASMIN YOUSSEF

Yasmin Youssef is a mixed media and cyanotype artist.

Her use of texture, layers, symbolism, color and mark-making in her mixed media art combine gracefully with her mixes of collage, paint, plaster, faux encaustic, vintage ephemera and gold leaf. Together, these elements elicit a sense of mystery, wonder, and story in the viewer.

When the sun is out, Yasmin can often be found creating deep indigo and white cyanotypes. Since the cyanotype process is so dependent on the weather, light conditions, seasons, and timing, there is an unpredictable and mysterious nature to the outcome of each piece that can’t be replicated. Yasmin finds this to be an exciting part of this art form. She enhances her cyanotypes by using combinations of ink, collage, paint, and plants from her garden. These striking statement pieces offer moments of peace and quiet connection to oneself and the natural world.

Yasmin is also a Middle Eastern Dancer and has performed in large festivals, theaters, and concert venues around the world with Thievery Corporation, Govinda, and Sabaya Bellydance Collective. In the corporate world, Yasmin has built an extensive career as a User Experience Designer & Manager designing enterprise-level software, websites, iPhone and iPad applications. She holds several software patents.
